Who was Asbjørn Sennels? Danish Professional Footballer Dead at 44

Asbjørn Sennels was a Danish professional footballer who made his breakthrough with Danish Superliga club Viborg in the 1999-2000 Superliga season, making his professional debut on Mat 21, 2000 as a starter in a convincing  7-2 victory against AaB.

He made 108 league appearances for Viborg during his five years at the club. In February 2004, he was signed by league rivals Brondby. Their manager, Michael Laudrup, brought in Sennels to fill the left-back position previously held by Aurelijus Skarbalius.

Sennels died on July 9, 2023, after having been diagnosed with cancer in the spring of the same year. He was 44.

His death was announced by Viborg FF.

It is with deep sadness that we have received the message that Asbjørn Sennels has passed away after a few months of illness. Asbjørn will forever have a special place in VFF history. A fighter. A clubman. A winner. Rest in peace,” the official Twitter page of the club announced in a statement on June 10, 2023.
