Korg is a massive, terrifying-looking rock monster with a dry sense of humour and an unexpectedly soft, New Zealand-accented voice, making him a memorable and strange addition to the MCU.

Taika Waititi is the voice behind Korg. The filmmaker and New Zealand native voiced and provided motion-capture acting for the character, and was inspired to inject the rock monster with the distinctive high-pitched thick Kiwi accent by bouncers in his home country.
Waititi described Korg’s accent as a “Maori bouncer from K-road in Auckland” in an interview on the Australian news talk show The Project, which is about as specific a reference as one could have for character inspiration.

Korg first appeared in the comics in 1963, in Journey into Mystery #83, alongside Thor for the first time.
Korg was a member of the “Stone Men from Saturn” who attempted to conquer Earth but were defeated by Thor.
The character would not be seen in the comics again for several decades until he appeared on Sakaar as a member of Hulk’s gladiatorial team during 2006’s “Planet Hulk” storyline.
