Even if the product is not recalled, some people should not use Robitussin because it may interact with other medications or cause unwanted side effects. For example, people who take monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), a type of antidepressant, should not use Robitussin because it may cause a dangerous increase in blood pressure.

People who have liver disease, diabetes, glaucoma, thyroid problems, prostate problems, or breathing problems should also consult their doctor before using Robitussin. Additionally, people who are allergic to any of the ingredients in Robitussin should avoid it.

Robitussin is generally safe and effective when used as directed, but it is important to read the label carefully and follow the dosage instructions. Do not use more than the recommended amount or for longer than the suggested period.
