Australian diver and trampoline athlete Matthew Mitcham was born on 2 March 1988. He is the second-highest single-dive scorer in Olympic history (at the time, it was the highest scoring dive ever) and the 2008 Olympic winner in diving on the 10m platform.

He became the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal who was openly gay as a result. Since Dick Eve at the 1924 Summer Olympics, he is also the first Australian man to win an Olympic diving gold medal.

Trampoline gymnast Mitcham began her career competing. Mitcham continued with both diving and trampolining for a number of years after being discovered by Wang Tong Xiang, a coach with the Australian Institute of Sport Diving Program.
