Crawley made his first-class debut for Kent in 2016. He scored his maiden first-class century in 2017, against Glamorgan. In 2018, he was the leading run-scorer in the County Championship, with 1,347 runs at an average of 45.

Crawley made his international debut for England in November 2019, against New Zealand. He scored his maiden Test century in February 2020, against Pakistan, scoring 267 runs. He was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in the 2021 edition of the almanack.

Crawley has been a regular member of the England Test team since his debut. He has scored 1,800 runs in 23 Tests, at an average of 33.33.
