Charley Trippi was the oldest living Pro Football Hall of Fame member until his death on October 19, 2022. He was also the oldest living first-round NFL draft pick, and the oldest confirmed living former American football player.

Charles Louis Trippi was born on December 14, 1921, in Pittston, Pennsylvania, to an Italian immigrant father.

From 1947 to 1955, he was a member of the National Football League’s (NFL) Chicago Cardinals. Trippi was a “quad-threat” player who could run, catch, pass, punt, and defend.

Trippi was the all-time NFL leader in total yards by a player at the time, and he is still the only Pro Football Hall of Famer to have at least 1,000 passing, rushing, and receiving yards.

In 2007, he was ranked 20th on ESPN’s list of the top 25 college football players of all time. In his honour, the football stadium at Pittston Area High School is named Charley Trippi Stadium.

Trippi was named to the NFL’s 1940s All-Decade Team in 1969, which was compiled to honour the best players of the decade. Charley Trippi passed away on October 19, 2022, at the age of 100, in Athens, Georgia.
