In 1961, Dark was named the team manager of the San Francisco Giants. The Giants, who were now based in San Francisco, enjoyed a winning record each of Dark’s four seasons with them and advanced to the World Series in 1962, where they were defeated by the New York Yankees in a seven-game classic.
Alvin helped the Giants win two of three games to win their first National League championship since moving to San Francisco, making them the first NL Champions in the 162-game era. In the regular season, the Giants had 1,552 hits, the highest in the franchise’s history.
