Who Is Susan Dunklee? Facts About The American Biathlete

Susan Dunklee is an American biathlete and a member of the Craftsbury Green Racing Project, a group of professional post-collegiate athletes (cross country skiers, biathletes and rowers) who promote sustainability and endurance sports in their local community

Below are some facts about the biathlete:

• Susan learned how to ski at age 2 with her family. She learned how to shoot at age 22 when she moved to Lake Placid, NY to join US Biathlon’s development program. Her father, Stan Dunklee, competed in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics as a cross country skier.

• During her rookie season on the World Cup in 2011-12 Susan placed 5th in the World Championship’s Individual race in Ruhpolding, Germany, tying the best ever result by an American woman.

 

• In 2017 she became the first woman to win a world championship medal in an individual event, taking silver in the mass start. Three years later she became the first U.S. double medalist at the IBU World Championships by winning silver in the sprint.

 

• Susan currently lives in Vermont and she splits her time training between Craftsbury and Lake Placid, the headquarters of the national team.

 

• Born on February 13, 1986, in New Port, Vermont. She loves hiking, unicycling, reading, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and camping.
