Born on February 25, 1947, Savran was most known for his tenure on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh when he co-hosted a talk program with Guy Junker.

Savran has been the host/co-host of Savran on Sportsbeat, the longest-running sports show in Pittsburgh television history, which airs weeknights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Pittsburgh since 1991 when it was known as KBL.

Savran on Sportsbeat was considered a lifeline to Pittsburgh natives who had scattered throughout the country: a way to touch base and get the news and opinions regarding Pittsburgh sports.

After graduating from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Savran worked in a variety of radio positions.

He worked in Columbus, Lawton, OK, and Orlando, FL, where he called World Football League play-by-play in 1974-75.

Savran moved to Pittsburgh in January 1976 after replying to a “blind” ad in Broadcasting magazine’s classified section for a radio sportscaster.

WWSW-AM in Pittsburgh was his first on-air position. He transferred to KQV when WWSW changed formats in 1979.

He passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at age 76 after suffering numerous health problems including lung cancer. On April 19, 2023, Savran revealed that he had his right foot amputated.
