St. Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to parts of Ireland. He was partly responsible for the Christianization of the Picts and Anglo-Saxons.

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated as a way to honour St. Patrick and celebrate Irish culture and heritage St. Patrick himself was born in Britain in the late 4th century and kidnapped by Irish raiders when he was a teenager at the age of 16.

St. Patrick was born into a Christian family. St. Patrick was taken to Ireland as a slave where he worked as a shepherd for several years. However, he escaped and returned to Britain. He later returned around 432 ce to convert the Irish to Christianity.

St. Patrick became a priest and bishop. He spent many years travelling throughout Ireland, preaching the gospel, baptizing new converts, and founding churches and monasteries.
