Koufax’s greatest success came during the mid-1960s when he led the Dodgers to three World Series titles in four years. In 1963, he won the Cy Young Award for the first time, and he went on to win it two more times in 1965 and 1966.
Despite his tremendous success, Koufax’s career was relatively short. He retired at the age of 30, following the 1966 season, due to chronic arthritis in his pitching arm.
Nevertheless, Koufax’s legacy lives on as one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the game. In 1972, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and his number 32 was retired by the Dodgers.
