On July 14, 2023, Ionescu established a WNBA and NBA record with 37 points in the Three-Point Contest, beating Stephen Curry’s previous record of 31. Making 25 of her final 26 attempts was one of the factors that contributed to her 37 points.
Ionescu hit 20 consecutive strokes at one point during her round, until she missed her penultimate shot from the right wing the second-to-last station before Ionescu reached the corner, where she hit another five shots and yelled after the final one.

In addition to her individual accolades, Ionescu led the Oregon Ducks to multiple deep runs in the NCAA Tournament, including a Final Four appearance in 2019. After her college career, Ionescu declared for the 2020 WNBA Draft. She was selected as the first overall pick by the New York Liberty.
