Who is Mohammad Mokhber? All About the man set to become Iran’s interim president

Early Life and Education

Mohammad Mokhber was born in Dezful in 1955. He holds two doctoral degrees, including one in international rights and another in management. Additionally, he has a Master’s degree in management.

 Career

Mokhber has had a diverse career, beginning as an officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ medical corps during the Iran–Iraq War.

He has served in various high-profile roles, including as the head of the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order (EIKO), the chairman of the board at Sina Bank, and the deputy governor of Khuzestan Province.

In October 2022, he was involved in a significant agreement with Russia, alongside senior IRGC officials, to supply drones and missiles to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

 Sanction

In July 2010, the European Union sanctioned Mokhber, listing him among individuals and entities involved in nuclear or ballistic missile activities.

He was the president of Setad (Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order) at the time. This sanction was lifted two years later.

Interim Presidency

Following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on Sunday, May 19, 2024, Mokhber, who is Iran’s first vice president, is expected to become the interim president.

According to the country’s constitution, as interim president, he will be part of a three-person council, along with the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary, tasked with organizing a new presidential election within 50 days of Raisi’s death.
