Jeanne Modigliani was an Italian-French historian of Jewish art, known for her meticulous biographical research on her father, Amedeo Modigliani.

Born into a world of creativity and expression, Jeanne’s life unfolded as a fascinating narrative intertwining art, love, and a dedication to preserving her father’s legacy.

In 1958, Jeanne authored the seminal book, “Modigliani: Man and Myth,” a work that delved deep into the life of Amedeo Modigliani, providing invaluable insights into the artist’s persona and the myths that surrounded him.

However, Jeanne’s personal life was not without its share of challenges. During the tumultuous period of the Second World War, she entered into a marriage with Mario Levi, a union often speculated to have been motivated by the desire to assist Levi’s legal residency in France.

Despite the wartime backdrop, the marriage was short-lived, culminating in divorce shortly thereafter.

Later in life, Jeanne encountered another chapter of marital dissolution when her union with Valdemar Nechtschein came to an end in 1980. These personal trials, though not defining her legacy, provide a glimpse into the complexities of Jeanne’s journey.

Tragedy struck in the form of a fall that resulted in a cerebral hemorrhage, ultimately leading to Jeanne Modigliani’s demise in a Paris hospital in 1984.

Her passing marked the end of a life dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of her father’s art and preserving the authenticity of his legacy.
