Mackenzie Dern’s father is Wellington “Megaton” Dias. Dias is a highly decorated grappling competitor and is known for his judo training and proclivity for launching his opponents far into the air, like a nuclear bomb detonation.

Wellington “Megaton” Dias was born on February 19, 1969, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  He began his training under the legendary Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti, a highly respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) master.

Throughout his career, Wellington “Megaton” Dias competed in various tournaments and achieved remarkable success. He received his black belt in BJJ in 1996 and went on to secure numerous championships, including the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship and the Pan American Championship.

Wellington Dias’ contributions to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu extend beyond his own achievements and his role as a father. In addition to being an accomplished competitor, Dias became a respected instructor and coach. He established his own BJJ academy, Megaton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Wellington Dias’ daughter Mackenzie Dern is a Brazilian and American professional mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner who is a former world No. 1 ranked IBJJF competitor and currently ranked 6th among the female divisions.
