Who is Lord Farquaad based off of? Why did they name him Farquaad?

It is speculated that Lord Farquaad is a caricature of Michael Eisner, former CEO of the Walt Disney Company.

Lord Farquaad’s name is also believed to be a corruption of the slang “fuckwad.” Michael Eisner, and his once-coworker Jeffrey Katzenberg, who produced Shrek for DreamWorks, had a bitter falling out.

Lord Farquaad is a fictional character who appears in the 2001 DreamWorks animated feature  film “Shrek.”

Lord Farquaad’s character is voiced by John Lithgow. In the original Broadway production of Shrek The Musical, the role was played by Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber.

Outside of the film series, Lord Farquaad appears in the Universal Studios Theme Parks ride Shrek 4-D and its comic book adaptation by Dark Horse Comics.

Lord Farquaad does not appear in William Steig’s original picture book of the same name. He is depicted as a short, selfish, ruthless ruler who seeks to rid his kingdom of all fairy tale creatures.
