Who is Lamin Swann? – Lamin Swann was an American politician and businessman who served in the Kentucky House of Representatives as a Democrat from January 2023 until his death on May 14, 2023.

Lamin Swann, who represented Lexington’s District 93, died on Sunday after being admitted to a hospital on Tuesday (May 9) last week, according to his mother, Pam Dixon.

Swann took office on January 1, 2019, after being elected in November 2022.

According to the website of the General Assembly, he served on the committees for elections, constitutional amendments, intergovernmental affairs, transportation, health care, economic growth, and workforce investment.

He started active in politics at the age of eight, after attending a demonstration with his grandfather at the Kentucky State Capitol lobbying for Martin Luther King Jr. Day to be recognized as a holiday in Kentucky.

He attended Tates Creek High School and the University of Kentucky, where he majored in social work and wrote for the school newspaper.

Swann had cerebral palsy and openly shared his struggles with the disease.

Swann was admitted to the hospital on May 9, 2023, for an unidentified “medical emergency.” Five days later, on May 14, he died at the age of 45.
