Born into a world of cinema, Aumont’s life unfolded as a tapestry of talent and bravery.

In the crucible of World War II, Aumont’s valor earned him not only recognition but also prestigious honors, including the Légion d’Honneur and the Croix de Guerre.

After the war, he swiftly resumed his cinematic journey, gracing the screen alongside Ginger Rogers in the poignant “Heartbeat” (1946) and enchanting audiences as the magician in “Lili” (1953) alongside Leslie Caron.

Aumont’s versatility extended beyond film. He collaborated with renowned theater directors and stars, leaving an indelible mark on both stage and screen.

Transitioning to television, he made memorable appearances on anthology programs such as “Robert Montgomery Presents” and showcased his wit as a guest on “What’s My Line?”.

Venturing into the 1960s and 1970s, Aumont displayed his theatrical prowess in diverse productions, including the classics “Tovarich” with Vivien Leigh, “Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris,” “South Pacific,” and “Gigi.”

In his later years, Aumont continued to captivate audiences with his artistry, notably in “A Tale of Two Cities” (1989).

His contributions did not go unnoticed, and in 1991, at the age of 80, he received an honorary César Award and was adorned with the cross of Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres.

On January 30, 2001, in Gassin, France, this luminary bid adieu to the world, succumbing to a heart attack at the age of 90.
