Who is eligible for a Monkeypox vaccine?

Vaccines can be useful tools for protecting people against monkeypox illness when properly administered before or after recent exposure.

JYNNEOS (also known as Imvamune or Imvanex) and ACAM2000 are two vaccines that have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in preventing monkeypox infection.

Based on vaccine supply and how the outbreak develops, vaccination eligibility may change.

According to the CDC, you meet the criteria for a monkeypox vaccine if: You’re in contact with someone who has monkeypox or you were identified as possibly exposed via contact tracing.

You had a sexual partner within the last two weeks who has monkeypox.

You’ve had multiple sexual partners in the last two weeks in an area with a high number of monkeypox cases.

If you have a medical condition, such as HIV or a condition that compromises your immune system, or you have a history of atopic dermatitis or eczema, that may make you more susceptible to developing a severe illness if exposed to the monkeypox virus.

If you have had monkeypox, you probably have some immunity to other illnesses and are currently ineligible for vaccination.
