Who is Chun Doo-hwan’s Wife Lee Soon-ja?

Chun Doo-hwan is a former South Korean president, politician, and army general who served from 1980 to 1988 as the fifth president of South Korea.

The military dictator who ruled for eight years died today November 23, 2021, in his home in Seoul this morning at the age of 90. He died as a result of a relapse of myeloma, a blood cancer that was in remission.

Chun Doo-hwan was married to the present widow, Lee Soon-Ja. Lee Soon-Ja, the second daughter of a family with three daughters and a son was born on March 24, 1939, in Chosun, Manchukuo.

In her early life, Soon-Ja entered Ewha women’s university, a medical school but later abandoned her dream to become a doctor because she got married to Chun Doo-hwan, an army officer on January 24, 1958. She was then 20 and Chun was 28.

Due to her marriage, Soon-Ja was expelled from the medical school because the academic policy of that school was to enroll women who were not married. she decided to complete a course at the School of Environment at Yonsei University.

Lee Soon-Ja became the first lady of South Korea when her husband become the 11th President in 1980. then, she accompanied and supported her husband in every event.

At that time, she took a particular interest in educational issues and made quantitative and qualitative contributions to early childhood education and heart surgery among children.

Following the resignation of her husband Chun Doo-hwan as the president, she also left the position as the first lady.

At the age of 82 today, November 23, 2021, Lee Soon-Ja becomes a widow after the death of her husband this morning.
