Austin Dean Maddox, a former professional baseball pitcher known for his brief tenure with the Boston Red Sox in 2017, has recently made headlines for his involvement in a troubling legal matter.

Arrest in ‘Child Predator Operation’
On May 20, 2024, Maddox found himself at the center of a criminal investigation when he was arrested in Florida as part of a “child predator operation.”
According to authorities, Maddox was one of 27 individuals apprehended in the multi-agency sting operation targeting individuals soliciting sex online from minors.
Charges Against Maddox
The arrest report indicates that Maddox, 33, initiated contact with an undercover agent posing as a teenage girl on April 28.
Despite being informed of the girl’s age (14), Maddox continued to pursue a sexual encounter. He agreed to meet the purported minor at a predetermined location, where law enforcement officers apprehended him.

Maddox faces four felony charges, including attempting to meet a minor after soliciting sexual acts online.

Background
Maddox’s professional journey in baseball began when he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 37th round of the 2009 MLB draft.
Opting to pursue college baseball at the University of Florida, he later joined the Boston Red Sox after being selected in the third round of the 2012 draft.
Although he made his MLB debut in 2017, appearing in 13 games for the Red Sox, his career trajectory took a downturn.
Maddox was released by the Red Sox in 2019, and according to official MLB records, he retired from professional baseball in February 2020.
The outcome of Maddox’s legal proceedings remains pending as he remains in custody on a $300,000 bond.
