Aaliyah Dana Haughton was an American singer, actress, dancer, and model. She was born on January 16, 1976, in New York City, USA. She was the younger child of Diane and Michael Houston.

Aaliyah started performing at weddings, church choir and charity events. When she was five years old, her family moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she was raised along with her older brother, Rashad. She attended a Catholic school, Gesu Elementary, where in first grade she was cast on stage.

In November 2001, Ronald Isley stated that Aaliyah and the Isley Brothers had discussed a collaboration before her death. She has previously covered the Isley Brother’s single, “At Your Best (You Are Love). Before her death, she expressed the possibility of recording songs for the Queen of the Damned soundtrack and welcomed the possibility of collaborating with Jonathan Davis.

Aaliyah died at the age of 22 in an airplane accident in the Bahamas when the badly overloaded aircraft was traveling in crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all nine on board.

The federal prosecutors in Brooklyn accused R Kelley of bribing an Illinois government employee on August 30, 1994, to obtain a fake ID for Aaliyah. The fake ID was to be used to obtain a marriage license that listed her age as 18.
