Julian Phillips was born on November 5, 2003, in Killeen, Texas, United States of America. Julian Phillips moved to Columbia, South Carolina in the third grade.

Julian Phillips initially attended Blythewood High School in Blythewood, South Carolina, and transferred to Link Prep in Branson, Missouri after his junior year. Phillips was a consensus five-star recruit.

Julian Phillips entered his freshman season at Tennessee as the Volunteers’ starting small forward. He was named to the 2022 Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament team after averaging a team-leading 13.3 points per game.

Julian Phillips played in 32 games with 25 starts as a freshman and averaged 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Julian Phillips produced his first career double-double against Eastern Kentucky (12/7/22) with a 16-point, 10-rebound outing.

Julian Phillips was named SEC Freshman of the Week on January 23 after averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 4-for-7 from 3-point range in a pair of road wins over Mississippi State and LSU.
