McCurdy has revealed that her mother abused her emotionally and sexually. “My mom’s emotions were so erratic that it was like walking a tightrope every day,” she said in an interview with People magazine.
McCurdy claims that her mother pushed her into acting when she was six years old, both to support her family financially and because her mother aspired to be a performer herself.
Her mother was “obsessed with making her a star,” she said, and she detailed how her mother contributed to her eating disorder by introducing her to calorie counting at the age of 11.

Jennette also revealed that her mother performed vaginal and breast exams on her until she was 17 years old and never let her shower alone.
Jennette McCurdy stated that she refused to appear in the revival of iCarly because the original show reminded her of her mother’s abuse.
McCurdy’s new book details more about the abuse by, her mother Debra, who died in 2013.
About her time on the Nick shows, she also writes about someone she refers to as “The Creator.” He was “mean-spirited, controlling, and terrifying,” she claims, and he was capable of making “grown men and women cry with his insults and degradation.”
