Cook started a high school band before competing on Idol, and they put out three studio albums and four live albums before releasing his debut independent solo album, Analog Heart.

Cook grew up in Blue Springs, Missouri, but was born in Houston, Texas.

Stanley Cook and Beth Foraker are his parents. He is the middle brother of three. He has English, German, and Irish ancestry.

Cook made a comeback in the twenty seasons of Hollywood Week to mentor competitors in the rock genre. Later, in the season’s “The Great Idol Reunion” special, which aired on May 2, 2022, Cook returned to perform a duet with Kris Allen.

Cook won the seventh season of American Idol on May 21, 2008, receiving 56 percent of the votes, with 12 million votes over David Archuleta, the runner-up.

In the battle of the Davids, David Cook beat out David Archuleta to win “American Idol” in season seven, which aired in 2008.

His winner’s single, “The Time of My Life,” peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 chart and joined 10 of his other songs that also debuted that week. He’s released four albums and three EPs.
