Her mom, Janet Acevedo, juggled between homemaking and caregiving, while her dad, Robert Mendez, worked as an automotive engineer.
Money was tight, and they faced tough times dealing with poverty, mental health issues, and addiction. Moving from place to place was common, sometimes even living out of motels or their car.
Despite these hardships, AJ found her calling in writing and wrestling. Introduced to WWE by her brother, she dove into professional wrestling in 2007, eventually making her mark in WWE in 2009. As AJ Lee, she stood out with her distinct persona, skills, and outspoken nature.

AJ’s wrestling journey saw highs like winning the WWE Divas Championship three times and making history as the first WWE Raw General Manager.
However, behind the scenes, she grappled with anxiety and bipolar disorder, topics she bravely addressed in her memoir, “Crazy is a Mask,” released in 2017.
In 2015, AJ bid farewell to the ring to pursue writing and acting. She’s since authored children’s books, penned a young adult novel, and ventured into screenwriting and acting in films like “Road to Paloma.”
Married to fellow wrestler CM Punk, AJ continues her advocacy for mental health awareness, proving resilience can overcome any challenge.
