James Joseph “Whitey” Bulger Jr. was an American organized crime boss who led the Winter Hill Gang in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts, a city directly northwest of Boston. He was born on September 3, 1929 and died on October 30, 2018 aged 89.

In fact, the scene was so gory that a law enforcement official described Bulger’s body as “unrecognizable.”
A funeral Mass was held for Bulger at Saint Monica – Saint Augustine Church in South Boston on November 8, 2018.
Family members, including his brother, former Massachusetts state Senate president William M. Bulger, and the twin sister of Catherine Greig attended.
To a large extent, Bulger’s death came as a relief to many Bostonians, especially for family members of his victims; Steven Davis, whose sister Debra was reportedly killed by Bulger in 1981, stated that “he [Bulger] died the way I hoped he always was going to die.”
