Balsamo suffered a stroke in 2005, which affected his ability to play guitar. He left the band in 2015, along with Jen Majura, who joined in 2015 as well. The current lineup consists of Lee, Tim McCord (bass), Troy McLawhorn (guitar), Will Hunt (drums), and Emma Anzai (guitar).

Evanescence has been involved in several charitable initiatives over the years. In 2010, they released a song called “Together Again” as a B-side of The Open Door and donated all the proceeds from its sales to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
