- Kaw Lake, near Kaw City, where Bill and Jo encounter water spouts and flying cows.
- Wakita, where Aunt Meg lives and where the final tornado hits. The town was partially demolished for the movie, with the permission of the local authorities.
- Guthrie, where the drive-in movie theater scene takes place.
- Stillwater, near Oklahoma State University, where Melissa’s hotel room is located.
- Other small towns such as Ponca City, Pauls Valley, Maysville and Norman.
