The harrowing search for 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, who vanished from her Texas home, has ended in tragedy as divers recovered her lifeless body from the depths of a nearby river.

Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons confirmed that Audrii’s body was found by divers during an extensive search operation in the Trinity River, a remote area north of Houston.
Her remains were located approximately 10 miles from her family’s residence near Lake Livingston, marking the tragic conclusion to the desperate search efforts.
Sheriff Lyons expressed profound sorrow upon delivering the devastating news, stating, “My heart aches with this news,” underscoring the profound impact of Audrii’s untimely death on the community.
The grim discovery came days after Audrii was reported missing by her family on Thursday, February 15, 2024, when she failed to return home from school in Livingston.

According to statements from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Don Steven McDougal, a resident who lived on the Cunningham property, emerged as a person of interest in the case.
McDougal, who occasionally provided transportation for Audrii, was reportedly the last person to have seen her alive on the morning of her disappearance.
Despite McDougal’s claims of being with Audrii on the day she went missing, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of foul play. McDougal has not confessed to any wrongdoing, but law enforcement officials are preparing to file murder charges against him in connection with Audrii’s death.
District Attorney Shelly Sitton has indicated that McDougal could face capital murder charges, underscoring the severity of the allegations against him. As the investigation unfolds, McDougal remains incarcerated at the Polk County Jail, held on a $500,000 bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
