Patrick Henry “Adam” Wade was born on March 17, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the United States to Pauline Simpson and Henry Oliver Wade, Jr. He was raised by his grandparents in the East Liberty neighbourhood. Adam Wade graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1952.

Adam Wade dropped out of Virginia State University in his sophomore year. He signed with Coed Records in late 1959 and gained prominence with his first hit in early 1960 with the song “Ruby”. Adam Wade became the first African-American to host a television game show, with the premiere of Musical Chairs in 1975.

Adam Wade hosted the talk show, Mid-Morning LA. He appeared in a stage production of Guys and Dolls in 1978 as well as a production of Same Time, Next Year (1979). He has starred in the soap operas The Guiding Light and Search for Tomorrow, the sitcoms Sanford & Son, The Jeffersons, What’s Happening!! and Good Times.

Adam Wade passed away on July 7, 2022, at the age of 87. He had reportedly battled Parkinson’s disease. He is the father of Jamel Wade, Patrice L. Wade and Sheldon W. Wade.
