Sam Bankman-Fried is the founder and CEO of FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, and FTX.US, its US subsidiary.
Before it all blew up, FTX was a leading exchange for buying and selling crypto derivatives. In September 2021, he relocated the headquarters to the Bahamas.
FTX’s valuation peaked in January 2022 when it raised $400 million at a $32 billion valuation from Singapore-government-owned investment firm Temasek, crypto venture capital firm Paradigm, Tiger Global Management, and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board.

In late 2022, FTX experienced a liquidity crisis. following FTX’s liquidity crisis, his net worth was estimated to have dropped 94% in a day to $991.5 million on November 8, 2022, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Bloomberg also reported on November 9 that the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission were looking into FTX and the nature of its connections to Bankman-other Fried’s holdings.
Sam Bankman-Fried also manages assets through Alameda Research, a quantitative cryptocurrency trading firm he founded in October 2017.
