American protestor, Rodney King is currently dead. In fact, he has been dead for the past ten years (10). He died at age 47. He did not die as a result of police brutality, which made him popular, however, he died by accidental drowning, according to the autopsy report.

King was a black man who was stopped after leading the police on an 8-mile chase on the streets of Los Angeles, California on March 3, 1991. He was on pursuit after he was allegedly intoxicated and was caught speeding on a freeway by a California Highway Patrol cruiser. They shared that he refused to pull up when he was asked to, hence the chase.

A group of officers from the LAPD department led by Sergeant Stacey Koon used force to make King comply. One of the officers named Laurence Powell was the main abuser of King when he resisted. King was shot twice with an electric stun gun also known as a Taser, carrying a charge of 50,000 volts. He was sent to the hospital with several injured.

The four police officers involved were later released, which caused an uproar in Los Angeles. He later sued the city for damages, taking home $3.8 million in addition to $1.7 million in attorney fees.
