Gloria Jones is an American singer and songwriter who first found success in the United Kingdom, is recognised as The Queen of Northern Soul. She was born on October 19, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Gloria recorded the 1965 hit song, Tainted Love and has worked in multiple genres as a Motown songwriter and recording artist, backing vocalist, and as a performer in musicals such as Hair.

In the 1970s she was a keyboardist and vocalist in Marc Bolan’s glam rock band T.Rex. She and Bolan were also in a romantic relationship and had a son together.

Gloria Jones has been working as a musical supervisor for films and is presently living in Sierra Leone, where she is building The Marc Bolan School of Music and Film.

Did Gloria Jones write Tainted Love?

Tainted Love is a song composed by Edd Cobb, formerly of the American group the Four Preps, which was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964.

It attained worldwide fame after being covered and reworked by British synthpop duo Soft Cell in 1981 and has since has been covered by numerous groups and artists.
