Darren Dreger is from Canada. He was born on  June 13, 1968, in Red Deer, Canada. He reportedly lives in Saskatchewan. Dreger graduated from the Western Academy Broadcasting College and was later offered a job at a radio station in Winkler, Manitoba.

Darren Dreger won a Gemini Award in 2010 in the Best Sports Reporting category for his coverage of the firing of NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly.

In October 2014, Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger began appearing as full-time contributors on NBCSN, until NBC Sports lost the NHL hockey rights to both ESPN and Turner Sports in 2021.

Beginning in 1992, Darren Dreger lent his voice as a play-by-play announcer for the Brandon Wheat Kings until 1993 when he was hired to replace Daren Millard at CTV Winnipeg.

While at CTV Winnipeg, Darren Dreger also conducted play-by-play for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. On July 14, 2006, it was announced that Darren Dreger would leave Sportsnet and join TSN on July 31, 2006.
