Joshua David Shapiro is an American lawyer and politician who has been the Attorney General of Pennsylvania since 2017. Shapiro is the Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Pennsylvania in 2022.

Shapiro ran for the 153rd district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2004. He defeated the Republican nominee, former Congressman Jon D. Fox, by a ten-point margin. In 2006, 2008, and 2010, he was re-elected.
Shapiro was elected to the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners in 2011, marking the first time in Montgomery County history that the Republican Party lost control of the board. Shapiro was appointed to the board of commissioners as chairman, originally alongside Democrats Leslie Richards and Bruce Castor.

Shapiro and his running mate, Val Arkoosh, both won the election in 2015, giving Democrats a majority on the board of commissioners. Governor Tom Wolf appointed Shapiro to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency in April 2015.
