Singer-songwriter Tove Lo hails from Sweden. Her gritty, grunge-influenced approach to mainstream songs has made her well-known. Tremblebee is a 2006 rock group she founded. After it broke up, Lo pursued a career in songwriting and signed a publishing contract with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011. She developed into a popular songwriter while working with producers Max Martin, Alexander Kronlund, and Xenomania. She independently recorded and released her own songs.

Universal Music, Island, and Polydor all signed Lo in 2013. Queen of the Clouds, her debut album, which debuted at number 14 on the US Billboard 200 list in October 2014, helped her become well-known the following year. It gave birth to “Habits (Stay High),” a sleeper hit track that peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.
