Tamika Devonne Catchings was born in Stratford, New Jersey, United States of America. Her popular sister Tauja played basketball at Stevenson and the University of Illinois. Tauja was drafted by the WNBA and now plays in Sweden.

Tamika Catchings played for both Adlai E. Stevenson High School and Duncanville High School, where she was named a WBCA All-American.

Tamika Catchings participated in the WBCA High School All-America Game where she scored twelve points. Catchings is one of only 11 women to receive an Olympic gold medal, an NCAA Championship, a Fiba World Cup gold, and a WNBA Championship.

In 2011, Tamika Catchings was voted in by fans as one of the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time. Tamika Catchings experienced the best season of her career in the 2003 season, where she averaged a career-high 19.7 ppg.

As of her retirement, Tamika Catchings ranked 1st all-time in career playoff scoring, 1st all-time in career playoff rebounds, 2nd in all-time regular season rebounds, 1st in total career steals, and 1st in career steals per game average.
