When Was The Mariupol Surrender Deadline Russia Gave Ukraine?

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry demanded that Ukraine surrender the besieged city of Mariupol, stating that Ukrainian forces have until 5 a.m. Moscow time (10 p.m. ET) Monday to lay down arms, but Ukraine refused.

According to CNN, Russian Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev called for the surrender of Mariupol via the state-run media outlet RIA Novosti, referring to Ukrainian forces as “bandits” and “nationalist battalions.”

After the surrender, the Russian Defense Ministry says it will open humanitarian corridors for Ukrainians trapped in the city, which has seen thousands of civilian deaths in recent days.

“There can be no talk of any surrender” or “laying down of arms,” Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk told Ukrainian Pravda, adding that Ukraine had already informed Russia of its position.

There are an estimated 300,000 people trapped there, with supplies running out and aid blocked from entering.

Residents have been without power or running water for weeks as a result of Russian bombardment.
