In November 2020, Biden was elected as the 46th President of the United States. Biden and his campaign mate Kamala Harris defeated incumbent President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in the 2020 presidential election.

Biden signed 17 executive orders in his first two days as president, more than most recent presidents have done in their first 100 days.

By his third day, he had issued measures such as rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, dissolving the state of national emergency at the Mexican border, directing the government to rejoin the World Health Organization, and requiring federal employees to wear face masks.

In terms of foreign policy, Biden re-entered the United States into the Paris Climate Agreement. He finished the departure of US soldiers from Afghanistan, which coincided with the collapse of the Afghan government and the Taliban’s takeover of power.
