What Crime Did Darryl Hunt Commit?

Hunt was wrongfully accused of sexual assault and murder of Deborah Sykes, a British journalist and copy editor.

He had been sentenced to life imprisonment as a result.

Hunt faced trial in 1987 for the murder of a black man named Arthur Wilson, who was killed in 1983.

After several trials, Hunt was acquitted, but in 1991, the Sykes charges resurfaced and he was convicted once again.

The DNA testing of physical evidence in the Sykes case could not be produced during the trial in 1984. Hunt was kept in custody until 2004, when he was fully exonerated of the murder, after one Willard E. Brown confessed to the crimes.

At the time Hunt was released, he had already spent almost 20 years in prison.
