When is Eid al-Fitr 2023?

Eid al-Fitr is expected to begin on the evening of Friday, April 21, 2023, and end on the evening of Saturday, April 22, 2023, depending on the sighting of the moon this week, it may begin on April 22 and end on April 23.

Muslims typically spend the day visiting relatives and neighbours, accepting sweets from house to house. Each country has its traditional desserts and sweets that are prepared before Eid or on the first day.

Making date-filled semolina cookies called maamoul has long been a tradition during Eid in the Middle East. These can also be stuffed with nuts and dusted with powdered sugar.

Sheer khurma or civilian is a traditional Eid dish in India and Pakistan. Vermicelli and milk custard are frequently garnished with nuts or raisins. Making amala with ewedu is a celebratory dish served on special occasions such as Eid in Nigeria. Ewedu is a traditional plant-based soup made with yam flour or cassava and accompanied by a meat stew.
