When did Kathy Whitworth stop playing golf?

Kathy Whitworth was a professional golfer from the United States. Kathy Whitworth retired  from competitive golf in 2005 after competing in the BJ’s Charity Classic, a Women’s Senior Golf Tour event.

On May 12, 1985, she won her final official race and the 88th of her career at the United Virginia Bank Classic.

Kathy Whitworth turned professional at the age of 19, joining the LPGA in December 1958. Whitworth won her first tournament, the Kelly Girls Open, in 1962.

Kathy Whitworth won six major championships in total. She was named LPGA Player of the Year seven times between 1966 and 1973.

Kathy Whitworth received the Vare Trophy for the best scoring average by an LPGA Tour player a record seven times between 1965 and 1972, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1975.

In 1965 and 1967, she was named Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. During the 1988 Centennial of Golf in America celebration, she was named “Golfer of the Decade” by Golf Magazine for the years 1968 to 1977.

Kathy Whitworth received the Golf Writers Association of America’s William Richardson Award in 1985 for her consistent outstanding contributions to golf.
