Where does Cadel Evans come from? – Cadel Evans, an Australian former professional racing cyclist, who competed professionally in mountain biking and road bicycle racing was born on 14 February 1977 at the Katherine District Hospital, a district public hospital servicing the Katherine Region in the Northern Territory, Australia.

The hospital was evacuated twice due to water inundation during floods in 1998 and 2006, putting pressure on the Territory Government to relocate the hospital to higher land at an estimated cost of $50 million.

The hospital has a 24-hour emergency department, general medical and surgical wards, an operating theatre, a maternity ward, an 18-bed children’s ward, a pathology laboratory, a radiography department with basic x-ray, ultrasound, and CT scan capabilities, and a renal unit.

There are also pharmacy and specialty outpatient services available.

Its renal dialysis unit which was opened in May 2000, provides an option for ongoing treatment for kidney disease. The facility accommodates the local Jawoyn people by providing local care which was previously only available in Darwin, forcing patients to relocate.

The Katherine Region, where the hospital is located is one of five major regions in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Also called “Big River Country”, it is situated just below the tropical Top End.
