Whats up with Jeremy Paxman? Is Jeremy Paxman retiring?

Popular English presenter, Jeremy Paxman has announced his retirement as the host of University Challenge. He has been the host of the show for 28 years; since 1994. The 72-year-old veteran television personality announced last year [2021] that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He shared that he has been trying to balance it with his regular life but all efforts have proven futile.

I’ve had a blast hosting this wonderful series for nearly 29 years. I’ve been lucky enough to work with an amazing team and to meet some of the swottier brains in the country. It gives me hope for the future,” he said.

The quiz show, University Challenge has been his longest role, helping him reach a mass audience who enjoyed his caustic approach. He took charge when the show was revived by BBC after several years off air. After taking over, one of his prominent winning students of Tory MP hopeful Mr. Kwasi Kwarteng who is set to become chancellor next month if Liz Truss becomes UK’s Prime Minister.
