Sticky Vicky rose to fame through a career that blended ballet dancing with an unconventional and adult-themed magic show. Her performances, which ran for more than 30 years, were a staple in Benidorm’s entertainment scene, where she once dazzled audiences with six shows a night for six days a week.

Born on April 15, 1943, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Sticky Vicky’s journey into entertainment started with classical ballet training that spanned 15 years. Her path took a unique turn when she joined El Molino as an artistic director and found herself at a crossroads. As the demand for more explicit shows increased, Vicky, alongside her sister, a contortionist, faced the challenge of adapting to the changing tastes of the audience.

It was during the easing of sexual censorship post-Francisco Franco that Sticky Vicky’s magic show was conceived. Encouraged by a magician friend, Vicky explored a groundbreaking act where she performed illusions involving the removal of unusual objects from her vagina. This daring move marked the beginning of her legendary performances, which combined undressing to background music, pulling objects like ping-pong balls, eggs, sausages, and even razor blades from her private parts, and concluding with opening a beer bottle with her vagina.

Sticky Vicky’s shows were not characterized as pornographic; rather, she emphasized the delicacy and elegance required for her unique brand of entertainment. Her act, which defied conventions, became a sensation, drawing audiences not just from Benidorm but from cities in northern Spain and various international variety theaters.

Her impact was not limited to the stage. The Spanish entertainer became a cultural phenomenon, appearing in the British TV sitcom “Benidorm” and earning the title of a living legend in the eyes of British tourists and Icelandic students who frequented Benidorm.

In 2001, Vicky found herself in a legal battle over the stage name “Sticky Vicky” with a fellow performer, María Rosa Pereira, known as “Sexy Bárbara.” The court rulings were overturned on appeal, highlighting the unique nature of Vicky’s performance as a choreographic work.

After a prolific career that saw more than six million tourists witnessing her acts, Sticky Vicky performed her last show in the autumn of 2015, just days before undergoing a hip operation. In 2016, she faced the challenges of uterine cancer, leading to her decision to retire at the age of 72.

Sticky Vicky’s legacy lives on through her daughter, María Gadea Aragüés, who, inspired by her mother, continues to perform under the iconic name. Despite the controversies surrounding her shows and personal life, Sticky Vicky’s impact on the world of entertainment remains undeniable. Her ability to evolve with the times, challenge norms, and captivate audiences for over three decades cements her status as a true Benidorm icon. As we bid farewell to Sticky Vicky, we celebrate the indelible mark she left on the world of entertainment and the enduring memories she created for those who witnessed her unique magic.
