Joe DiMaggio was regarded as one of the greatest batters in baseball history. Joe DiMaggio, a centre fielder for the New York Yankees, is best known for getting a hit in 56 consecutive games in 1941, a major league record that still stands today.

DiMaggio’s graceful demeanour and extraordinary talent earned him the nicknames “Joltin’ Joe” and “The Yankee Clipper” and made him one of the great popular heroes of his day. He spent his entire 13-year major-league career with the Yankees before retiring in 1951.

DiMaggio made his Yankee debut on May 3, 1936, and batted.323 with 29 home runs in his rookie season, helping the Bronx Bombers win the World Series.

The Yankees went on to win four World Series in DiMaggio’s first four seasons, making him the only athlete in North American professional sports history to win championships in each of his first four seasons.

DiMaggio won nine World Series championships and three American League MVP awards during his 13-year career in Major League Baseball. He had a.325 career batting average and 361 home runs. In 1955, DiMaggio was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
