What team did Jesus Alou play for?

Jesus Alou was a professional baseball outfielder from the Dominican Republic who played for the San Francisco Giants (1963-68), Houston Astros (1969-73; 1978-79), Oakland Athletics (1973-74), and New York Mets during his 15-year MLB career (1975).

Jesus Alou made his Major League debut in 1963 with the Giants and retired in 1979, despite missing the 1976-77 seasons.

He left the Giants after being selected in the 1968 Expansion Draft by the Montreal Expos. He never played for Montreal, which traded him to the Houston Astros in the offseason of 1968-69.

Alou returned to the Bay Area with the A’s in 1973, hitting.306 as a pinch hitter down the stretch to help Oakland win its second World Series in a row. The following year, he and the A’s won the World Series again.

Jesus Alou retired following the 1979 season. He was a career .280 hitter with 32 home runs and 31 stolen bases with the Giants, Astros, A’s and Mets.

ESPN’s Enrique Rojas went on to say that Alou had two “cardiovascular accidents” recently, but that he was not known to be suffering from a “serious illness.”
