Ahmed attended Bluecoat school in Nottingham.
Ahmed began playing cricket at a young age, due to the fact that his father, Naeem Ahmed, was also a cricketer.
He became England’s youngest Test debutant in the men’s category, following his international debut in 2022, at the age of 18.

In 2023, he joined England’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against Bangladesh.
Ahmed is also the youngest England male cricketer to make his debut in ODIs, and in T20Is.
He is “the youngest male cricketer for England to make his debut in Tests, and the youngest debutant to achieve a five-wicket haul in men’s Tests.”
Ahmed has appeared in several matches including the 2021 Royal London One-Day Cup, County Championships and Cricket World Cup.
In 2022, he was listed amongst BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.
