Ruby Ridge was the site of an eleven-day-siege in 1992 in Boundary County, Idaho, near Naples. It began on August 21, when deputies of the United States Marshals Service initiated action to arrest Randy Weaver after he fails to appear on firearms charges.

During the search, a shootout occurred killing Weaver’s 14-year-old son, his wife and his dog. Randy was later arrested and arraigned before court. He was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Degan. He was fined $10,000 and sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Harris and Randy Weavers were arrested, and Weaver’s three daughters went to live with their mother’s family in Iowa. Randy was acquitted of all charges. The surviving members of the Weaver family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit.
